How To Set Up Chromecast 2

Chromecast Setup – What Is In The Box

Here is what you will find inside your Chromecast 2 box:

You get the Chromecast, a USB cable for power, and the power adapter if you are not using your TV’s USB port for power. If you have the first generation Chromecast, you will have an additional extension cable too. Find more about the contents here.

Connecting Your Chromecast

Plugin your Chromecast to an HDMI port on your TV. If your TV has a USB port that can give power, connect the power cable to your Chromecast and plugin the USB side of the cable to the USB port on the TV. Here is how an HDMI port looks like:

If the TV does not have a USB port, connect your power cable to a power plug using the adapter provided in the package. For first generation Chromecast, and you are unable to connect the Chromecast to the HDMI port because of the way your TV is designed, (I couldn’t connect mine, there was not enough space!) look for the extension cable in the packaging:

The second generation Chromecast is designed to avoid such issues, so you will not need any additional cable.

After connecting your Chromecast to the HDMI port and setting up USB power, change the input on your TV to HDMI. If your TV has more than one HDMI port, note down the port number you connected your Chromecast to, and change the source to that HDMI port. When the correct input is selected, you should see the Chromecast setup screen on your TV.

Using a OSX MacBook

  1. Connect your Chromecast to your TV as explained in the Connect Your Chromecastsection.
  2. Switch your TV’s input to HDMI, look for the Chromecast screen on your TV.
  3. Visit google.com/chromecast/setup/ using your browser.
  4. Click Download under the message “Download the app to set up your new Chromecast
  5. Complete the download and install the app
  6. Launch the Chromecast app from your app launcher.
  7. Read and accept the terms and conditions. The app will now scan your network for Chromecasts.
  8. When the app finds a Chromecast, its name is displayed. Ensure that you see the same name (example: Chromecast 2020) on the TV screen.
  9. Click Continue. The app will go ahead and set up your Chromecast.
  10. The app will now display an alphanumeric code. Confirm that you have the same characters showing on the TV as well.
  11. Click That’s my code. You will now see the screen to choose a wireless network.
  12. Select your wireless network. Enter the password to connect to your Wifi network.
  13. In the Chromecast name field, enter a name for your new Chromecast to identify it. (example, Living Room TV).
  14. Click Continue. Chromecast will now finish set up and display the new name and the Wifi network’s name on the TV.
  15. Launch Chrome browser.
  16. Download and install the Google Cast extension.
  17. You are all set to cast!

Using an Android Phone or Tablet
